A BETTER TOMORROW

The dark clouds stand beyond the horizon,
Anger and vengeance,
conveyed by the sound of the thunder,
The lightning flickers the faces of the desolate bright,
Faces shivering
an evidence of the fear created,
and fear generated.

It starts to pour,
heavy raindrops pounding the roofs of their tents,
Slowly the wind gains more intensity,
and blows away their home,
the only place they called home.
Forced to shelter under a tree,
looming danger of lightning related electrocutions,

No home for them,
No belongings for them,
everything the owned washed away
by the murky flood waters
Yet they still choose to live,
and live with the hope of a better tomorrow!

that has been the scenario in Kenya,
People who I feel for,
staying in tents for four years,
and someone somewhere,
is busy eating and sleeping comfortably,
under the comfort of SUV's bought by cash we pay,
sleep in the houses that were built on land grabbed,
from the people sheltering under that tree.

Is there hope for a better tomorrow for this people?
the people who fought for these people in power now?
Will the world ever listen to the cry of the children
whose futures at best are fruitless?
will the world open up their eyes and see,
the misery our mothers are going through?
will the world wake up to the reality
of unhealthy fathers striving to make ends meet?
will the world ever realise the hope of a better tomorrow?
